As marketers continue to grok the importance and impact of online conversations on brands, they're increasingly looking at new tools, new platforms that will help augment and extend the way they tell their stories via the web.

Corporate blogs, branded social networks and other new media platforms are proving their worth and return with many companies, but knowing which tool(s) to use in your marketing program is only part of the equation -- knowing what it takes to successfully *create and build* a platform for conversation is the other, and it's a part where many markters get stuck.

Josh Hallett, principal and founder of Hyku, Inc., and a well-respected social media blogger and consultant will be talking with us about some of the technical and production considerations that marketers need to consider when undertaking new media projects.

This month we're going to partner with the Society for New Communications Research and the Third Thursday meetup groups for a great panel discussion. We'll be discussing monitoring and measurement of social media. Why is it important to monitor social media and consumer generated content? What are the tools and services available? What differentiates them? How do you know which one is right for you? How do you measure influence in this vast and continuously growing mediasphere? Which metrics really matter? Where should you start? These are just some of the questions we'll be asking our panel of experts. What are yours? Visit our wiki at http://www.socialtext... and share your thoughts and questions.

Panelists:

Brian Glover, Sr. Manager, Market Strategy, Biz 360
James Kim, CEO, OpinMind
Jay Stockwell, Sr. Vice President, Nielsen Buzzmetrics

Moderator: Jen McClure, Executive Director, Society for New Communications Research

Please join the Third Thursday team, Social Media Club, the Society for New Communications Research and our panel for a great conversation!

Our first MeetUp was hosted by the good people at WINK - David Beach showed off their new social network search engine, plus a bunch of other cool features. I'm still looking for a host for the next meetup in early January, so please make recommendations if you have them. The idea is that we keep the party hopping from one sponsoring company to the next, so they can show us their wares and help support the group with pizza/soda.

For questions on this specific MeetUp email me at peoplepoweredweb@gmail.com. Thanks, Matthew

Our first MeetUp is being hosted by the good people at WINK - we'll be using the lounge area in their offices and one of the crew there will be showing off their new social network search engine. You'll be welcome to test and give honest feedback on new features for their first-of-its-kind social network search engine. This is sure to be a good jumping off point for discussion and a great chance to meet other people into social media and the community-driven web at Wink's labs in Mountian View, please RSVP by Sunday 12/3 if possible. We'll be meeting on the third floor of 5150 El Camino on Wednesday starting at 6pm-8pm 12/6. Pizza and assorted schwag for all.
